Come solve climate change challenges with Tree Africa’s CEO – London event

Africa will feel the brunt of the adverse effects of climate change. But how prepared are we to meet these challenges? How do we make sure that Africa’s development drive takes adequate consideration of the environment? What interesting environmental initiatives are already being implemented on the continent that we can plug into?

These are some of the questions we’ll be addressing at the June New Ideas for Africa in London. The theme is “Environment and Sustainable Development” and we’ll be joined by Charlene Hewat, CEO of Zimbabwean NGO, Tree Africa who will share some of the work of her organisation. We will then open the session up for everyone to share their views and experiences about living sustainably.

After the discussion, we will have the ideas workshop and welcome practical initiatives around enviroment and sustainable development in Africa.

Please extend this invitation to other people in your network who have a passion for the environment and stimulating positive change in Africa.

Date: Wednesday 24 June 2009
Time: 6:30pm-9pm
Venue: UnLtd, 123 Whitecross Street, Islington, London, EC1Y 8JJ

Go green with New Ideas for Africa: Jo’burg event

Expedition to AntarcticaConversations about caring for the planet used to be reserved for hippie tree-huggers. Now the words Climate Change have grown beyond a whisper as government speaks of introducing carbon tax to companies who don’t keep emissions in check. Even closer to home – the thought of flooding in Soweto would have been laughable a year ago but a reality now. But what does all this really mean to you and I?

To find out, join the June session of New Ideas for Africa where Lesley will be sharing stories and lessons from her recent expedition to Antarctica. We will then open the session up for everyone to share their views and experiences about living sustainably. You will have the opportunity to find out how to plug into environmental initiatives on the go and how to transfer knowledge back to your home/community/work. Confirmed organisations supporting this event include Food & Trees for Africa and the Greenhouse Project. Jeunesse Park, founder of Food & Trees for Africa is a UN Award Winner on Climate Change and will be joining us for the session.

Event details as follows:
