The leadership Africa needs – London event

Femi writes: ‘The theme for our  May meetup is  ‘The leadership Africa needs’. We will precede the ideas workshop with a discussion on the type of leaders Africa needs and what can be done to generate these leaders. Unlike most discussions on this topic, I hope our conversation is not exclusive to political leadership but extends to every sphere of life in the continent where leadership is required.

After the discussion, we will have the ideas workshop and welcome practical initiatives around stimulating leadership and positive change for communities in Africa.

Please extend this invitation to other people in your network who have a passion for stimulating leadership and positive change in Africa.

Spring into action (London 29/04/09)

One of the many delighting things about the turnout at our April meeting, kindly hosted by Unltd*, was that we had the highest ever number of participants from the (African) diaspora. Countries represented included Nigeria, Gambia, Zimbabwe, the US and Nepal. By chance, it also turned out that over half of the 14 participants had been members of AIESEC while they were students!

As ever, we had a fun and fantastic set of discussions, ranging from how to engage in projects in politically sensitive regions to promoting innovation and enterprise among the under-30s. For those of you that couldn’t join us in person, here is a brief run down of the ideas presented, and the people behind them:

– Toyin Dania: Encouraging and supporting entrepreneurs to set up businesses in Ghana

– Bremley Lyngdoh: Carbon Neutral Dance – raising funds for Worldview Impact teams in Ghana, Togo and Kenya

–  Jim Kleiber: Sustainable Energy for rural communities made from local resources

–  Africa++ (that’s us): Directory of opportunities for diaspora engagement with Africa through UK-based organisations.

Get in touch if you’d like to know more – or, better still, come to our next meeting.
